Resort-Inspired Landscape & Drainage Transformation in Auburn, Alabama
Some outdoor projects are all about curb appeal. Others are about solving problems. This Auburn property needed both – and the result was a complete outdoor transformation designed to improve function, enhance beauty, and create a landscape that feels just as polished as the home itself.
From large-scale drainage solutions and grading work to lush new landscaping, irrigation, and custom garden spaces, this project was designed with long-term performance and everyday enjoyment in mind.
Solving Drainage Challenges the Right Way
One of the most important parts of this project happened below the surface.
The property had several drainage concerns that needed to be addressed around the home, pool area, and surrounding landscape. Our team designed and installed a comprehensive drainage system that directed water safely away from the property and toward the nearby creek.
This included connecting the pool overflow, gutter downspouts, strip drains, French drains, and pool backwash lines into a coordinated underground piping system built to handle heavy water flow efficiently.
By taking a proactive approach to drainage, we were able to protect the landscape investment while improving the overall usability and longevity of the outdoor spaces.
Regrading & Fresh Emerald Zoysia Sod
Once the drainage infrastructure was in place, we shifted our focus to reshaping and restoring the property.
Extensive grading work helped smooth uneven areas, repair sections impacted by vehicle traffic, and improve overall water movement throughout the landscape. Additional topsoil was brought in to refine elevations and prepare the property for new turf installation.
To complete the transformation, we installed more than 44 pallets of Emerald Zoysia sod throughout the property.
The finished lawn created a clean, seamless look around the home while adding the dense, manicured appearance that Emerald Zoysia is known for.
Layered Landscaping with Year-Round Interest
The planting design for this project was centered around creating texture, structure, and seasonal color while complementing the architecture of the home.
A diverse mix of hydrangeas, viburnums, camellias, gardenias, distyliums, magnolias, tea olives, rosemary, drift roses, and other carefully selected plant material helped soften the outdoor spaces and bring warmth and depth to the landscape.
The combination of evergreen structure and flowering seasonal interest ensures the property looks beautiful throughout the year.
To help protect and define the planting beds, pine straw mulch was installed throughout the landscape, creating a polished, finished appearance while helping retain moisture and reduce weed growth.
Smart Irrigation for Healthy Growth
To support the newly installed landscaping and sod, our team installed a full irrigation system designed to provide consistent coverage throughout the property.
The system included irrigation for both the turf and landscape beds, helping ensure the new plant material establishes properly and continues thriving long after installation.
Separate drip irrigation was also added for the raised garden beds, providing efficient watering exactly where it’s needed.
Custom Raised Garden Beds
One of the standout features of this project was the addition of custom cedar raised garden beds.
These elevated planting areas added both beauty and functionality to the landscape, giving the homeowners a dedicated space for gardening while tying naturally into the overall design aesthetic of the property.
The finished garden area creates a more personalized outdoor experience and adds another layer of usability to the space.
A Landscape Designed to Last
This project is a great example of how thoughtful landscape construction can completely transform a property.
By combining drainage solutions, grading, irrigation, premium sod installation, and layered planting design, we were able to create an outdoor environment that is both functional and visually striking.
Every element was designed to work together – resulting in a landscape that not only looks beautiful today, but is built to perform for years to come.
