What We Pay Attention to That Most People Don’t Notice
When we walk a property with a client, we often hear the same thing:
“I’m not totally sure what I want… I just know something feels off.”
That’s actually the perfect place to start.
Because what makes a landscape feel right (or wrong) usually isn’t the obvious stuff like plants or paver color. It’s the quieter details — grading, drainage, transitions, how you naturally move through the space.
In our latest blog, we’re sharing the behind-the-scenes decisions that make an outdoor space feel effortless.

From Sloped Yard to Serene Outdoor Retreat
When an Auburn homeowner came to us with a steep backyard and big dreams, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work. The goal? Turn that underused slope into a calming, low-maintenance retreat.
We designed a custom pond at the base of the slope to embrace the natural water flow and added native plants like pink muhly grass, black-eyed Susans, and oakleaf hydrangeas for seasonal color. Evergreen favorites like Soft Caress mahonia keep things lush even in winter. Dry creek beds and natural boulders added both beauty and smart drainage. The result is a peaceful sanctuary that feels like it’s always belonged.
